Welcome

Welcome to The Ridgewood in beautiful Bridgewater,
Nova Scotia.
About
At The Ridgewood we know that today's seniors enjoy longer, more active lives than any generation before them! Their needs are also different and we understand that too...
The Ridgewood offers large studio style units with three piece baths, and spacious living, social & recreation areas. In addition, all meals & snack plans are included, as well as housekeeping and laundry services.
The facility and staff are committed to ensuring you a comfortable and active lifestyle.
Spring has started off great with our residents taking a trip to Peggy’s Cove. We have some great photos of the outing to enjoy.
Spring was also celebrated by having one of our regular visits from the “Small World Nursery School”. Residents and preschoolers created beautiful colorful butterflies, and we all had the pleasure of the adorable little ones singing and dancing for us. Last week, the residents also had a special visit by some newly hatched chicks. Some residents stated that it has been many, many years since they have held a little baby chick.
With
the expectation that summer will soon be here, our residents have many seedlings
planted. We can’t wait to transplant them in our new outdoor planter. We also had a
large number of terracotta plant pots donated by a staff member so the residents
put their creativity to work and painted the pots in cheerful spring colors.
Our
craft sessions are a joy, as is relaxing while listening to the old tunes by
Jimmy Durante, Nat King Cole & Louis Armstrong to name a few. It gives me such
delight to here the ladies start singing along as they paint “Stars Shining
bright above you, night breezes seem to whisper I love you, birds singin in the
sycamore trees, dream a little dream of me”. Ladies and gentlemen, you did a
great job on the bird houses!
A trip to the greenhouse sure makes us feel like
summer as well. Residents picked out Petunias, marigolds, lobelia and spike
plants to plant in our planters out front. We are excited about our summer events, including: a trip to the Hank Snow Museum, drives to the beach, outdoor
fireside sing along, barbeques, fishing, visiting local farms, spa night and
enjoying the local entertainment that visits here. Oh and did I mention ice
cream?
The Ridgewood's roomy Front Entrance & sunny Dining Room...
Fostering a sense of a 'community within a community', it is our belief that
continued good health begins with the knowledge and understanding of seniors,
their values, beliefs and capabilities. With this understanding, we have
included in our service delivery those individuals, best equipped to offer our
guests the respect, support and care they require.

Some of our Regular Ridgewood Activities
Twice a week we have Morning Exercise. This includes Range of Motion exercises to improve our circulation, breathing, digestion and well-being. After we complete our exercises, we play a game to work on our hand/eye coordination and reflexes. The games vary between beach ball basketball, bowling, balloon badminton, washer toss, etc. Some days we go for walks together either outside on nice days or around the inside of our home; other days we do brain exercises and games.

We also enjoy weekly drives around different areas of Lunenburg County. We're so lucky to live in an area with such beautiful landscapes. Some of our drives take us to the ocean, where we admire the incredible views and share memories of family trips to the beach; other drives lead us to quaint little towns filled with friendly waves from all those who pass us. On some drives we head inland and are often lucky enough to catch glimpses of wild bunnies, white tailed deer and other fascinating wildlife by the wayside.
We play a lot of games here at Ridgewood too. We have weekly bingo afternoons where many residents seem to have lady luck on their side. Scrabble and Cribbage are two of our favourite games, but we also enjoy trivia games, often with different themes depending on the time of year.
Some other games often seen in our Community Room are Yahtzee, Chinese Checkers, Dominoes and Connect Four. We almost always have a puzzle on the go on our puzzle table, and some days we get together and challenge each other in a game of Wii Bowling.
Quite often we are honoured to have local entertainers come in and perform for us. We've enjoyed the company of many different singers, fiddlers, dancers and even some people playing their ukuleles. We've had a few Spa Nights, where a massage therapist, a hair dresser and a manicurist all volunteered their services to us. Our ladies (and some men) enjoy a night of pampering!
One of our favourite volunteers is Maggie, our therapy dog. She happily visits us on a regular basis and loves it when we have her special treats ready for her. We also have many different churches that come in and offer us chapel services, and there's a local church that records their service on DVD every Sunday for us to watch together in comfort here at home. Then every Sunday evening we get together by the fireplace and chat about our week, families, friends and everything else going on. It’s a peaceful way to end our weekend.
We have many other daily activities happening at Ridgewood; our monthly calendar of events is always hanging on the wall near our dining room.

Kind Comments on the Ridgewood...
To Hope and the Staff
I want to thank you all for the kind and patient care you have given my mother. Living far away can be difficult especially when your mother can no longer live on her own. After visiting your lovely facility and having met many of you, my concerns have been put to rest. Ridgewood is a wonderful place to live and everyone I met was friendly and helpful. Mom tells me of all the activities that take place and how beautifully the rooms are seasonally decorated; I wish I could be there to enjoy it all.
