Bridgewater - in the LaHave River Valley

Bridgewater's downtown shopping district is moments from the Ridgewood and the river-side streets offer easy walking and auto access.  A covered parkade along the river offers convenient downtown parking and a refreshing river front view.  You'll find groceries & restaurants, health & beauty centres, auto & government services.

Take a virtual stroll through the small-town atmosphere of a South-Shore river-side landmark.

As you drive into town from the Ridgewood, you come immediately to the LaHave Street side of the shopping district.  Running behind the mall is a small river-side park with shady trees and easy walking, close to parking & shops

This little town park offers great views over the river in every season of the year; here in this summer shot you can just see the covered waterfront parking lot on the other side of the LaHave river.

This lot runs along the riverfront side of the 'old town', historic King Street, offering a mix of shops and services. Most are situated on or near this main street, allowing easy access by auto, foot or wheelchair.

This lovely river view in summer, as seen walking across the Veterans' Memorial Bridge, looks towards the other of the town's two bridges serving the downtown area.  It makes for wonderful photos!

Veteran's Memorial is the larger bridge and the closest to Ridgewood.  After a shopping trip to the 'old town' this would be your homeward view past the mall and back 'up the Ridge'.

On historic King Street itself in the heart of Bridgewater, the pace is slow enough to allow for easy driving, while level sidewalks make walking comfortable for almost any age.

The Municipal Parking Lot overlooking the riverside is on King Street itself and parking spots can usually be found right on the ground level, avoiding the use of stairs.  River boaters can dock below!

From the covered Parkade you'll have a good view of the LaHave River, spanned by the original town bridge.  This spot is a good location to pause and watch river traffic too!

Bridgewater is an mix of old and new development.  Across the  river from King Street you see the mall off LaHave street, offering low level shopping and lots of parking, with the historic HMCS Fraser Ship Museum docked just downstream.

While on King Street itself and it's neighbourhood you'll see a wide range original architecture in the shops, restaurants, churches, B&B's and especially in the private homes, proudly maintained by residents.

Some of our outings...

Outside the facility and even outside the community, our comfy van regularly explores the area, such as this visit to Green Bay, a great example of Nova Scotian scenery.

Yes, that's right, that's a couple of Ridgewood residents visiting the world famous lighthouse (and postoffice), at Peggy's Cove overlooking our rugged Atlantic Coast.

Residents enjoyed a trip to the Hank Snow Museum in Liverpool, (one of Nova Scotia's most famous native sons) - for history, along with a stop at Wile's Lake Farm Market - for bedding plants from the greenhouse - and treats!

Some activities...

Here residents are planting seeds to start our garden indoors early and creating their own customized flower pots from scratch.  The Ridgewood has plenty of time and space for many different crafts and in-house activities, and we regularly post everything on our calendar in the Dining Room.

Music is a big part of life at Ridgewood, with our entertainment centre & equipment in the Common Room, plus groups of musicians both small and large, presenting concerts.  Above is the South Shore Ukulele Group, regular and popular visitors at Ridgewood.
